Children love the great outdoors and want to spend all day outside. With the right headwear for children, you can protect them from harmful sun rays, as well as rain and cold. Children should wear suitable headwear every day until they reach school age. This is because children's skin is particularly sensitive and can quickly be damaged by too much sun and cold. You can recognize good headwear for children by the following features:

  • A children's cap or summer hat for babies is very light, so that children's sensitive heads are protected from the sun without getting too hot underneath. Depending on the model, such a cap weighs between 10 and 60 grams.
  • Integrated UV protection and a visor or wide brim provide sufficient sun and vision protection for the sensitive eye area.
  • The material (e.g., microfiber) is usually breathable.
  • If the cap is also intended to protect against rain, the material is water-repellent.
  • Some models are equipped with neck protection (e.g., summer baby cap), which prevents UV radiation from damaging the skin in the sensitive neck area.
  • Many models are adjustable in size so that they can be individually adapted to the child's head size and your child can wear their cap for a longer period of time.
  • Some children's caps can also be fastened with two strings (e.g., nylon drawstrings) to prevent them from slipping off the head or being pulled off by the child. These drawstrings are particularly useful for very young children who do not like to wear their caps.
  • The water- and dirt-repellent headwear is easy to wash in the washing machine and dries very quickly thanks to the lightweight material.

Whether at the beach, on a hike, or even at the playground, a hat or children's cap with a special UV filter provides children with optimal protection against sunburn and other symptoms that can quickly develop from too much sun exposure. Even when the sky is overcast, suitable headwear is important, as UV rays can penetrate cloud cover. In winter, of course, the warming factor of a children's hat is paramount, as the head should be completely protected from cold, wind, and wetness so that colds don't stand a chance.
