If you are an adventurer and want to enjoy nature away from mass tourism, you also need soap and some hygiene products to feel good. Many people enjoy being able to go a few days without shower gel, shampoo, and deodorant. After all, a little body odor adds to the feeling of adventure. But it depends on your own feelings and, above all, whether you are traveling alone or with others. At the latest when you are no longer alone and others can smell you, soap and hygiene accessories are definitely recommended.
Washing outdoors
As a general rule, no washing substances should be allowed to enter the water. Even natural products contain surfactants that are difficult to break down. Soap, liquid soap, shower gels, shampoos, or shaving cream should not be allowed to enter the water of lakes, rivers, or streams directly. Surfactants and other substances damage ecosystems, animals, and plants. To protect nature, it is better to wash yourself on land. The wash water should seep into the ground as far away from the shore as possible. The microorganisms in the soil break down the problematic surfactants and the water enters the groundwater purified.
A pack sack is suitable for showering; it is waterproof and many have a screw cap that can be used as a shower head. Some pack sacks or water sacks are made of fine, black neoprene material. If you hang the full water bag in a sunny tree an hour beforehand, the water will warm up to a pleasant temperature.
Soap for everyone and everything
A soap that can be used for both personal hygiene and washing dishes is space-saving and practical. It is made entirely from natural substances, but even these soaps should never be used directly in a body of water or river. Other soaps contain citronella, a fragrance that mosquitoes dislike. This allows you to protect yourself from insect bites without needing insect repellent. However, this soap does not work the same for everyone. It is better to try it out beforehand while you still have all your toiletries to hand.
Large laundry, thin line
If you are traveling for a longer period of time, you will not be able to avoid doing laundry. A folding bucket is the ultimate hygiene accessory. It is made of waterproof plastic and can be folded completely flat. A size of 10 to 15 liters is practical, as it can hold at least one large item of laundry or two to three small items. A folding bowl has also proven its worth, but it requires a little more storage space
. The water for small laundry items is heated beforehand on a stove, and a universal soap is perfect for this. However, liquid travel soap can also be used if more storage space is available.
Drying laundry can sometimes be a challenge. You need a clothesline and clothes pegs. And then, above all, two points to which the clothesline can be attached. A flexible and elastic clothesline that adapts to the available distance is ideal.
A twisted clothesline can hold the laundry between the two or three twisted cords. However, this is not always secure in windy conditions. There are extra small and flat clothes pegs that can fit into even the smallest corner of your luggage.
