Bicycle bell: for greater safety on the road

When you're out riding your bike, you often encounter pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users. You and your bike are not always immediately noticed and can therefore be easily overlooked. To avoid painful collisions, it's important to make yourself visible. The quickest way to do this is with a good bicycle bell, also known as a bike bell or bicycle horn, which alerts others to your presence.

Bicycle bells come in many different varieties, so you can choose the right model for you in terms of design, sound, and size. For example, Transa's wide range of bicycle bells includes Chinese bells, models in a classic design, and fun animal motifs for young cyclists.

Bicycle bell: small, light, and loud

With a distinctive bicycle bell, you are guaranteed to never be overlooked in traffic again. To ensure that the bell meets this requirement, you should consider the following criteria when making your selection.

You can recognize a good bicycle bell by the following features:

  • It can be easily installed on the bike without much effort. Some models come with the necessary tools, such as Allen keys, included in the delivery.
  • The sound is loud enough to reliably warn other road users.
  • Some models maintain the sound for a particularly long time after being triggered.
  • There is a wide range of designs to choose from – from classic bells to elegant designer models, there is something for every taste when it comes to bicycle bells.
  • For children, there are designs that are particularly child-friendly in the form of animal figures, which not only ring but also emit funny horn sounds on children's bikes, strollers, or balance bikes.
  • The material (e.g., steel, brass, and aluminum) is robust and therefore durable.
  • The accessories for attaching the bicycle bell (e.g., clamps and screws) are very sturdy and prevent the bell from getting lost while riding. Many bells can also be attached with a simple O-ring, making them suitable for different handlebar sizes.
  • There are extra-flat models that are particularly space-saving and inconspicuous on the handlebars – ideal for sporty cyclists.
  • Many models can be attached to the right or left side of the handlebars, making them suitable for both left- and right-handed cyclists.

Bicycle bell – which sound is recommended?

It is important that the bell can be heard clearly even in loud traffic. However, the sound should not be too loud so as not to startle others excessively. Classic sounds that can be immediately recognized as a typical bicycle bell are well suited. For children's bikes, funny horn sounds are of course also acceptable.
