Different types of bike locks

Depending on your budget, security requirements, and taste, you can find different types of locks in our online shop. One way to recognize a good bike lock is that it has a very robust construction that cannot be opened with conventional theft tools. In addition, the bike lock should be as flexible as possible so that it can be easily wrapped around the bike and a fixed object. Weight also plays a decisive role in handling. To protect the paintwork of your bike from the solid material of the lock, it should have a soft coating. Cylinder locks, ideally with a keyhole cover, are particularly theft-proof. Alternatively, various manufacturers also offer practical combination locks, which do not require a key.

The inexpensive cable lock

Cable locks are particularly inexpensive and extremely lightweight. They consist of a plastic-coated steel cable, which offers only minimal protection in terms of security. However, cable locks are very inexpensive to purchase and, thanks to their low weight, can be transported with little effort. They are particularly suitable for locking up a bike for a short period of time.

The robust U-lock

An alternative is the U-lock, which is recognizable by its classic U-shape. This type of bike lock is significantly more robust and makes it difficult for a bike thief to break the solid U-shaped shackle with conventional tools. However, U-locks are rigid in shape and therefore take up a lot of space when transported. They are also relatively heavy and come with a higher purchase price.

The handy chain lock

The chain lock, which consists of several flexibly connected chain elements, is particularly easy to use. It can be easily wrapped around any object and therefore protects a bike from theft when you are out and about. You can also expect to pay a slightly higher price for a chain lock, but this quickly pays for itself thanks to the high security standard.

The compact folding lock

A folding lock is also flexible in use and takes up very little space during transport. However, you can expect a noticeable weight for the high security standard. Folding locks are also among the more expensive bike locks.
