Sleeping well outdoors: in a camp bed and on an outdoor lounger

If you enjoy camping or spending a lot of time outdoors, then a good night's sleep is important. What used to be a sleeping pad is now a camp bed. What used to be a simple deck chair is now an outdoor lounger. These modern camping loungers are all much lighter and more comfortable than the models of previous generations.

Advantages of the camp bed and outdoor lounger

  • You lie comfortably and softly, no matter how hard, uneven, or rocky the ground is.
  • Cooling air can circulate underneath you, which is very pleasant in hot areas.
  • You can increase the comfort of the camp bed and outdoor lounger with an additional mattress.

What is the difference between a camp bed and an outdoor lounger?

A camp bed is primarily designed to allow you to sleep comfortably at a campsite, in a tent, or simply outdoors. Many camp beds are so light and cleverly foldable that they are comparable in size and weight to a standard sleeping mat.

An outdoor lounger is more intended for the garden, balcony, or beach. It can often be folded, but not rolled up. It is not made for hiking and expeditions, but as a lounger for relaxing outdoors, it is more comfortable than a camp bed.

The most important features of a camp bed

In the past, camp beds were made of heavy wood and covered with hard fabric. Such a bed is out of the question for transport, as it is much too heavy and unwieldy. Today, camp beds are made of lightweight but sturdy aluminum tubes. The strut construction can be folded up and set up again in seconds. Some camp beds are so solidly built that they are suitable for permanent use in holiday camps or for longer vacations. Certain camp beds can even be used to build bunk beds.

Since a camp bed is always slightly raised, it can also be used as a seat or storage space during the day. Depending on the design, the lying height can range from a few centimeters above the ground to half a meter. The higher the frame, the more material and weight are required. A camp bed that goes on expeditions should therefore have short legs. However, if the camp bed stays in the tent for a longer period of time and is transported by motorhome or car, it may be more comfortable to have longer legs.

What other features characterize the camp bed?

  • Lightweight and sturdy construction
  • Easy handling
  • Small pack size
  • Practical accessory pockets

Anyone who chooses a camp bed or outdoor lounger will definitely enjoy the fresh air and can listen to the sounds of nature in peace.
