The Friend from Wild Country has been the benchmark for mobile safety devices in crack climbing for almost 50 years. This new generation retains the proven core elements - the characteristic 13.75° clamping angle, the non-anodized clamping segments with milled grooves for better grip and the weight-saving hollow-axle design - and adds well thought-out improvements.

The most striking innovation is the Magic Cord technology: a seamless core-coat construction replaces the previous Dyneema sling. With no stiff seams, the extendable sling glides through the hand without resistance and can be extended by up to 20 centimetres. A UHMWPE core provides mechanical strength, while the outer nylon and UHMWPE coat offers abrasion, cut and uv protection. A wear indicator signals when the sling should be replaced.

The improved pin-hole design prevents the segments from jamming and accumulating dirt - for a more even release over the entire service life. The enlarged grip surfaces on the trigger and thumb loop make operation easier. Friends now have a service life of 10 years from first use, plus an additional 4 years if stored properly.
